What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age*.

Signs & Symptoms of PCOS may include:

  • Missed or irregular periods
  • Male-pattern baldness or thinning hair
  • Excess body hair
  • Acne
  • Infertility
  • Weight gain, especially around the abdomen
  • Fatigue, sleep apnea, sleep problems, depression, mood changes

There's no single test to specifically diagnose PCOS.

Your health care provider is likely to start with a discussion of your symptoms, medications and any other medical conditions.

Your health care provider also may ask about your menstrual periods and any weight changes. A physical exam includes checking for signs of excess hair growth, insulin resistance and acne.

PCOS treatment focuses on managing the things that are concerning you.

This could include infertility, hirsutism, acne or obesity. Specific treatment might involve lifestyle changes or medication.

Though PCOS cannot be totally cured, your health care practitioner may recommend several options to help manage the symptoms.

How Does PCOS Impact Fertility?

One of the key benefits of myo-inositol is its ability to support fertility and hormone balance in women with PCOS. Research has shown that myo-inositol supplementation can help to restore regular ovulation and improve egg quality. This is especially important for women trying to conceive, as irregular ovulation and poor egg quality are common issues in PCOS. In addition, myo-inositol can help to regulate hormone levels, particularly insulin and androgens.
